Mijas

mijas puebloAn absolute treasure of the Costa del Sol is the beautiful little village of Mijas, which lies only 4km from Villa Manana. When you wander through the narrow cobbled streets of this Andalucian town you’ll find many craft shops with typical handmade pottery and affordable paintings made by the local artists. Relaxing on one of the many patios and enjoying the spectacular views is one of our favourite things to do. Mijas has seven golf courses including the La Cala Resort, which is the biggest golf resort in the whole of Spain. On the edge of Mijas pueblo, you can find a beautiful botanical garden home to all types of plants.

Malaga

Malaga centroThe city of Malaga that everyone knows and loves was shaped by its rich history. Malaga was a confederate city of Rome under Emperor Tito’s rule, which multiplied its importance among other Spanish cities. Malaga was one of the few cities that adapted well to the Roman lifestyle, this can still be seen to this day. Many important buildings developed during the Roman period. The Roman amphitheatre is one of the few buildings whose remains can still be seen in the city centre. 
During the Middle Ages, Málaga was part of the Islamic kingdom of Al-Andalus. This was the same period when the Alcazar was built. This domination lasted almost seven centuries and left some distinct features in the city. At the end of the 15th century, during the Reconquista, the Spaniards had conquered Malaga after heavy fights. The last non-Hispanic ruler was Napoleon, who ruled the city for two years in the 19th century.
There are a wide variety of attractions for the tourist theatre, flamenco, tapas bars, shopping, Malaga F.C. Football stadium La Rozaleda, the Gibralfaro Castle, The Alcazaba, The Cathedral, The Picasso Foundation, Atarazana market, and many more.

Marbella

Marbella, Puerto BanusMarbella is a famous city home to 27 km of sandy Mediterranean beaches, villas, hotels, and golf courses. In the western area of Marbella, you can find many prestigious nightclubs and coastal estates leading to Puerto Banús marina, filled with luxury yachts, and many exclusive and expensive designer shops. Marbella is also known as the playground for Europe’s rich and famous.
Marbella city also has a very different side. The old centre is a spider-web of narrow streets and small squares which are full of white-painted buildings and restaurants, old churches and orange trees. 

Fuengirola

fuengirolaThis is a popular tourist destination due to the beautiful sandy beaches and the coastline shops. There is a medieval Moorish Castle that towers over the beach called “Castillo Sohail”. Fuengirola is also known for hosting popular concerts and festivals during the summer.
Fuengirola city can be seen from our swimming pool as it’s less than 10km away!

Cabopino

cabopinoCabopino beach is a big sanded beach and has a protected dune area with lovely wooden boardwalks so you can appreciate the beautiful landscape. The sea is calm and shallow. A certain part of the beach is popular among nudists. Just around the corner, you can find a charming port with a pleasing range of bars and restaurants.

Malagueta Beach

MalaguetaPlaya Malagueta is the closest and easiest to get to from town, it’s a 10-minute walk along the lovely promenade that starts at the east end of the port. It’s the perfect place to flop after spending a wonderful afternoon in the centre, you can treat yourself to a refreshing dip. Muelle Uno is less than 5 minutes away from the beach. It’s a very popular place to go for some food or drinks due to its beautiful view over the port and its large variety of restaurants.

Tarifa

tarifaTarifa beach lies a bit further away from Villa Manana than the rest but it would undoubtedly be worth a visit if you find the time. If you follow the coastline you’ll find some lovely restaurants with breathtaking views. The fine golden sand, those surf-loving winds, and that very special sunshine of the Costa de la Luz make it an unbeatable combination.

La Caleta

la caleta playaA little further east along the coast from Playa Malagueta is La Caleta, another majestic city beach and is one of the most well-maintained beaches in Malaga. Even though it’s close to the city centre it doesn’t feel closed-in or overcrowded. Along the stretched-out sandy beach, you’ll have beautiful views of the untouched mountainous terrain that backdrops Málaga. All along La Caleta, you can find little beach bars to go for a drink and ice cream.

Chaparral Golf Club

Chaparral Golf Club offers 18 holes surrounded by a Mediterranean pine forest. A unique experience with panoramic sea views. Chaparral gold club also offers a restaurant & clubhouse.

Alhaurin Golf

This golf course is only 5 minutes away from Villa Manana! Alhaurin Golf is built on a hillside and offers gorgeous views over the Mediterranean Sea and the Mijas mountains. 

La Cala Resort

This is the biggest golf resort in the whole of Spain and lies only 25 minutes away from our B&B. This resort has an outstanding three golf courses in this one location. La Cala also provides a luxury spa, a Club House, a golf academy and three restaurants to choose from.

Local adventures

Sierra de Mijas

sierra de mijasVilla Manana lies at the foot of the Sierra de Mijas. These mountains are not only a feast for the eyes but are also wonderful to discover on foot. Several hiking trails start around the corner from the villa. The fauna and flora are beautiful especially with the sea right behind. If you want to make a day trip, you can walk to the top where you’ll find the weather station. If you prefer a shorter route (3.5 km) then walking to Mijas Pueblo is a great idea, there you can take a break with some traditional Spanish tapas. Not in the mood for the walk back? You can take the bus or one of the many taxis.

Barranco Blanco

Barranco BlancoBarranco Blanco is an awesome quick getaway for a hot summer afternoon to escape the heat and enjoy the fresh cool water from Río Alaminos. The area of ​​Barranco Blanco has amazing hiking trails and refreshing waterfalls. Barranco Blanco is only a fifteen-minute drive from Villa Mañana and can be easily accessed on foot after you’ve parked the car.

Caminito del Rey

Caminito del ReyEl Caminito del Rey is a walkway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro. It’s an 8km trail that was once considered one of the most dangerous in the world! Today the entire route has been safely restored. The unique experience of strolling along walkways 100 metres up is unforgettable. 

El Chorro

el chorroA hidden paradise right next to Caminito del Rey you can find the El Chorro lakes. There are three huge lakes made up of beautiful clear turquoise water, El Chorro is surrounded by many trees which helps if you want to cool down in the shade. Along the outside of the lake, you’ll find several typical Spanish restaurants which are great for eating some Tapas. Depending on where you’re located, you’ll also be able to find shops where you can hire boats & kayaks.
